Getting Started with Plant Services Pt. I

Design, Installation, Maintenance

If you’re here, you might be considering hiring an Interior Plantscaper. Maybe you’re just wondering what a ‘Plantscaper’ is, in the first place. So let’s get into the nitty gritty of what the point of interior plantscaping is and discuss some of the different services that Staghorn Botanicals provides, and how to get started.

Interior plantscaping is just one name of several for what we do. It may also be called interiorscaping, interior landscape, or even indoor gardening. Like an outdoor space may have a professionally crafted and carefully considered landscape made up of plants, so can an indoor space. We are not, however, interior designers. While what we do involves design, we don’t choose paint colors or furniture placement. We highlight your interior space with the placement of plants, and if you choose, we also come in and take care of your plants.

Design & Installation

A lot of consideration and training goes into making plant selections for indoor spaces. Making the right choice can involve determining the light levels of your space, choosing containers that complement the existing aesthetic of your space, and considering other aspects such as vents, drafts, traffic, maintenance levels, and color. Having extensive experience with many species of indoor plants helps us to choose plants that will behave the most successfully where they are placed.

If you’re only interested in installation, you’ll only need to set up a consultation and we’ll come check out your space and submit a service proposal. If you accept, then we’ll make all of the necessary purchases, come in and set everything up, and you’ll be billed for the cost of containers, plants, and install labor.

Maintenance

Another option that we think is just a bit sweeter is a plant rental/maintenance package. Just as described above, we’ll provide a proposal and install the plants. The difference is that rather than purchasing the plants to own, you’ll be renting them from Staghorn Botanicals. Plant rental packages have a lot of benefits:

1.) They include weekly maintenance - Once a week, a plant technician will visit your location to water, prune, treat and prevent pests, fertilize, dust leaves, rotate plants for even light exposure, and clean up any plant debris.

2.) They include guaranteed replacements - The reality of life is that some plants just don’t make it. This is normal and natural. We are taking these plants out of their natural (usually tropical) habitats and adapting them to living in environments that are often considerably dimmer and less humid, and then planting them in pots that limit their space to grow. While a trained technician can keep plants healthy and thriving most of the time, there are inevitably going to be plants that start to naturally decline over time. If you’ve signed on for a plant rental package, that doesn’t show up on your bill when we need to swap something out, that’s just included in the service! This way, we can keep your indoor space looking fresh without any hassle.

3.) You pay a lot less to get started - Rather than paying to purchase all of the plants and containers on one bill, plant rentals are billed as a monthly rental fee that includes weekly maintenance. If you choose to cancel rental service after the first few months, you can choose to pay a purchase fee for the plants or we’ll remove them at the end of service.

If you’re looking for help with existing plants in your space and your interest in services doesn’t fall into the above categories, you’re not alone. We custom tailor each service package to our unique clients to their needs. If you already have the plants and containers, we also take on clients for maintenance-only packages. We can also do a combination of things if you have some plants, but want more or need some replaced. The first step to getting started is getting in touch, so we look forward to hearing your ideas!
